Meet the New Superintendent

Dear Kelliher Public School Staff, Students, Parents, and Community Members:

I am honored to introduce myself as your new Superintendent. I join a district where strong community support and commitment to student success embody Kelliher's mission of "Developing leaders and life-long learners in a community that promotes rigor, relevance, and respect."

Throughout my 29-year career in education, I've gained perspective from every angle—classroom teacher across elementary through high school grades, administrator, and superintendent for the past decade. This journey has shown me that educational excellence depends on every team member's contribution, from instructional staff to transportation, food service, maintenance, and administration. My experience leading financial turnarounds, implementing innovative programs, and building community partnerships has reinforced that when we work together, we achieve remarkable outcomes for our students.

My wife, Brenda, and I have been married for 26 years and have four children and five grandchildren. Our family enjoys 4-H activities, camping, and trail rides with our horses. I also train hunting dogs and enjoy fishing in both summer and winter. My rural upbringing taught me to value the tight community bonds that small towns, like Kelliher, cultivate. These experiences have deepened my appreciation for rural communities and the distinctive character that makes Kelliher an ideal place to serve.

I'm eager to connect with you and the entire Kelliher School community before my official July 1st  start date. If you see opportunities for us to meet—whether at school events, community gatherings, or even for a casual conversation—I'd love to hear from you personally. My leadership approach centers on listening to your perspective alongside others, building consensus together, and recognizing how your unique contributions help shape our school's success. Getting to know you and your insights about Kelliher now will be invaluable in ensuring we start this journey together effectively.

Kelliher's strength comes from genuine partnerships between school and community. Your involvement shapes student achievement in countless ways. I am committed to fostering transparent communication, creating space for meaningful engagement, and embracing collaborative decision-making processes. I welcome your ideas, insights, and suggestions as we honor Kelliher's traditions while exploring possibilities for growth together. What opportunities do you see for our school community? I look forward to hearing from you. Please feel free to reach out to me at 218-395-0393 or email me at jnelson@kelliher.k12.mn.us.

.

Thank you for your warm welcome. I am eager to work alongside this dedicated community as we shape an outstanding educational experience for every Kelliher student, now and in the future.

Sincerely,

Jeff Nelson
